Analysis of the role of the B cell inhibitory receptor Siglec-G in autoimmunity and infection models

Subject Area Immunology
Term Funded in 2009
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 109957018

Siglec proteins are a family of inhibitory receptors on immune cells. We recently characterized Siglec-G as a new member of this family. Siglec-G is expressed on B lymphocytes and has a specific role as inhibitory receptor on the B1 cell subset in the mouse. This was found in Siglec- G-deficient mice with have a large expansion of B1 cells and increased B1 cell Ca2+ responses. This proposal addresses the role of Siglec-G in systemic autoimmunity and anti-bacterial immunoglobulin responses which will be studied during a research visit in a lab at Cambridge University.
