The principal goal of this study is to determine experimentally the solubility and diffusivity of Au, Cu and Mo in andesitic melt as well as the partitioning of these metals between silicate, sulfide/sulfate and fluid phases at typical magmatic conditions. The solubility/diffusivity and partitioning of metals or metal-bearing compounds (e.g., oxides, chlorides, sulfides etc.) will be determined as a function of volatile concentrations (H2O, Cl, S) in andesitic magma. The results are required for understanding and modeling natural processes related with the mobilization and transport of ore metals in magmatic systems. The data will be important for fundamental research as well as for economic purposes.
