Subproject B1 aims at realizing a natural interaction between a user and a companion-system. Dialogue strategies will be developed enabling the companion-system to proactively initiate dialogues and to carry out meta-dialogues. This should allow the user not only to communicate in an application-related way, but also to address the communication with the system itself or to bring up those problems that occur during the communication. For this purpose, a dialogue-related decision procedure will be developed and implemented. It extracts information from the ongoing dialogue, the dialogue history and information related to the actual user status. Upon this information it decides if, when and how the proactive assistance is required.
