Application of nanostructured thin bionic layers to enhance the wear and friction behaviour of forming tools by thin-walled sheet forming (B05)

Subject Area Engineering Design, Machine Elements, Product Development
Term from 2009 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 68237143

The main goal of this research project is to adapt and improve the tribological properties of functional surfaces for the specific demands of sheet-bulk metal forming by using Cr-based hard coatings, processed by highly ionized sputter processes (HiPIMS). In addition to the development of the coatings, mechanical processing, plasma etching, and nitriding as well as a post-treatment of the coatings are used to develop more efficient coating/ substrate systems, which will be subsequently used to protect filigree bionic-inspired surface structures.
