The studies of the electron behavior in strong electromagnetic fields are of especial interest for fundamental as well as practical reasons. This project aims at the theoretical exploration of several important problems concerning the behavior of electrons i) in relativistic highly charged ion-atom collisions and ii) in the combined field of a highly charged nucleus and a very intense laser field. In particular, single-, double- and multiple-electron transitions and the photon emission by electrons driven by the strong fields will be investigated based on novel theoretical methods to be developed.
