Contact models and -discretizations for dry and saturated soils within dynamical applications

Subject Area Applied Mechanics, Statics and Dynamics
Geotechnics, Hydraulic Engineering
Term from 2009 to 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 76838227

Geotechnical construction processes and their influence on the surrounding area need a modelling procedure where the contact between soil and structure has to be treated as a unilateral contact prob-lem. Within solid mechanical applications there exist a lot of methods to formulate and discretize contact problems. For geotechnical applications a lot of new phenomena have to be solved. The correct friction behaviour, the interaction with the complex material models of the soil and the formulation of the coupled fluid solid interaction of saturated soils are still challenging issues. Although new theoretical formulations and complex discretization techniques were developed improvements are still required. Especially for dynamical contact applications and for the solutions of pile installation into (partly) saturated soils new formulations including liquefaction effects have to be developed.
