Process design of ultrasonic spray pyrolysis synthesis of RuO2/TiO2 nanoparticles for catalytic applications
Final Report Abstract
Ruthenium oxide (RuO2) is a promising catalyst material for various industrially important chemical reactions. It is well known that RuO2, if deposited on a TiO2 support, can act as an efficient electron transfer catalyst. The most important aim in this study was to produce the RuO2/TiO2 core-shell nanoparticles with improved catalytic properties and a long-time stability using the ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) method in a single step process. The obtained particles were characterized by several methods. The results of the direct synthesis have not confirmed the formation of RuO2/TiO2 core/shell nanoparticles. In order to form the desired core-shell morphology of the RuO2/TiO2 new equipment for multistep USP-synthesis was developed. The ideally core-shell structure was reached using this new approach. The additional investigations with the aim of optimizing both structure and process shall be performed. Our multistep USP synthesis offers a potential for the design and the development of various complex systems for different applications.
