Nonequilibrium Phase Transitions in Driven Systems

Subject Area Statistical Physics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Complex Systems, Soft and Fluid Matter, Biological Physics
Term from 2005 to 2011
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 12488749

The project originates from the long-time collaboration of its participants from Rostock and Moscow. It is aimed at the development of a microscopic traffic flow theory that is based on the fundamental properties of driver behavior and should give an adequate description of individual car dynamics and the car interaction on highways. The specific subjects of the given project are as follows.(i) Analysis of dense traffic properties based on empirical data collected on German highways and in Moscow tunnels and denoised using wavelet techniques.(ii) Development of the bounded rational driver approach to describe individual car motion.(iii) Investigation of nonequilibrium phase transition in systems with dynamical traps.
