Project Details
Dynamics of intermediate filament self-assembly (B07)
Subject Area
Biophysics
Term
from 2009 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 28586557
Intermediate filaments in the cytoskeleton of eukaryotes are a major contributor to the mechanical properties of cells. The hierarchical build-up of the filaments from subunits and the formation of networks will be studied. We will combine nano- and micro-imaging and scattering methods with microfluidic techniques. In particular, our aim is to understand the influence of mono- or multivalent ions on the assembly and the resulting mechanical properties.
