By the use of energy optimal control techniques the energy consumption of servo drives can be reduced significantly. Based on present results further energy saving potentials should be clarified by examining the following points in theory and experiment:- the influence of up to now unconsidered motor iron losses and inverter losses of the optimisation and downsizing results- the consideration of high speed servo motors operating in field weakening- the required modeling deepness- the usability of the theoretical downsizing effects on a practical motor choiseThe potential of improvements should be studied for combining energy efficient motion control with efficient electrical state control for the examples of pm synchronous-, synchronous reluctance-, and asynchronous motors. Some thesis of practical limits for dynamics and precision will be expected. The studies should be made perfect including electrical storages inside the inverter or mechanical storages given inside of 2 or 3 mass drive systems in optimization and downsizing strategies.
