Cellular interactions of actin regulatory proteins

Subject Area Cell Biology
Term from 2005 to 2013
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 14721585

Proteins associated with the actin cytoskeleton provide connections between signalling, adhesion, cell motility and intracellular transport. Many of them have a multidomain structure which allows them to be present within large protein assemblies which link cellular structures to the cytoskeleton and/or to undergo many interactions and perform diverse roles. Goal of this study is to analyse in vivo the interactions of two actin-binding proteins, filamin and CAP (cyclase associated protein). We will specifically look at filamin s potential to sense signals or changes in a cell and will test which kind of self and nonself interactions are important for CAP s in vivo function. The studies will be carried out in Dictyostelium which allows us to use a wide variety of genetic, cell biological and biochemical techniques.
