Aim of the Collaborative Research Centre is to develop techniques and methods, including the suitable procedures, in order to develop, build and run "customer specific" logistic plants. When designing a logistic plant it is very important to focus not only on the logistic plant itself but also on servicing and maintenance. So, already on the construction stage, it should not only be considered if the plant can easily be produced and built, but also be easily operated. This includes the demands of operation and possibly necessary changes (flexible construction). Only by planning this ability to be easily maintained, the costs of operation can be reduced and the availability and lifespan can be increased. Additionally, the plant should be constructed flexibly to enable changes, e.g. when the transported goods change, without too much effort and costs. The result of these additional characteristics of the product is an increase in customer satisfaction and bonding.
The Collaborative Research Centre focusses on three main aspects. The project area A centres on developing models and techniques to define and structure customer demands. On the central platform (project area D), which includes these models, the demands of each stakeholder are analysed, compared to possible solutions and thus combined.
The subprojects in project area C focus on the operation of logistic plants, especially on the availability including service and maintenance as well as real-time logistics. Long-term aims are to check the state of the plant in real time, in order to arrange for components to be exchanged, repairs carried out or a change in load.
In project area B the focus is on the development of a logistic plant. This includes the improvement of geometrical features, drives, especially considering the complexity in mechatronics, and the adjustment of checking and maintaining machines. Long-term aims are the development of rules how to get a logistic plant, which is easy to build, dismantle, check, service, maintain, a plant, which is easily accessible, adjustable and exchangeable.
