Electronic Bistable Recording Media for Scanning Multiprobe based Ultrahigh-Density Data Storage

Our goal is to develop bistable organic conductive media as storage media for a micro-fabricated scanning device to achieve ultra-high density data recording. New concepts are required for the fabrication and mechanical stabilisation of the storage media to enable applications in the field of nanoelectronics. In particular, the interface of the storage media should mechanically resist copious scanning (1000 Goals cycles) with a scanning probe tip to avoid degradation of the soft organic conductive media. The media should be rewritable using voltage pulses maximal 5 V in amplitude and maximal 1 ps duration. A device based on all MEMS will be developed that writes and reads data electrically beyond an areal density of 1 Tbit/inch2. Join Japanese and German research effort to develop new recording media.
