Project Details
Mechanisms underlying activation and polarisation of inflammatory monocytes and organ-specific regeneration in acute and chronic liver diseases (A02)
Subject Area
Parasitology and Biology of Tropical Infectious Disease Pathogens
Term
from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 80750187
Inflammatory monocytes play a pivotal role in liver diseases ranging from the induction of immunopathology, as observed during infection with Entamoeba (E.) histolytica, to protection, as found in the Listeria infection model. We want to identify the molecular and immunological mechanisms responsible for liver-specific activation and polarisation of inflammatory monocytes in additional models for liver disease. Furthermore, we want to determine novel liver-specific repair mechanisms by analysing respective candidate genes expressed in the E. histolytica infection model during tissue repair.
