Regulation of antibacterial immune responses in the liver (A03)

Subject Area Immunology
Term from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 80750187

Bacterial infection of the liver causes rapid recruitment of inflammatory monocytes. In the liver, monocytes mature to bactericidal M1 macrophages, but also to M2 macrophages which promote tissue regeneration after clearance of infection. Differentiation of monocytes is regulated by IL-6 and ADAM proteases which control surface expression of the IL-6R. In the project, we plan to use the Listeria monocytogenes infection model in mice with defects in IL 6 signalling and in ADAM proteases to analyse hepatic monocyte differentiation during bacteria control and tissue repair, and the function of IL-6 signalling in these processes.
