Regulatory T cells and TH17 cells in experimental cholangitis (B03)

Subject Area Gastroenterology
Term from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 80750187

The imbalance of regulatory T cells (Treg) and TH17 cells observed in patients with cholangitis offers the potential for therapeutic intervention. After having established a protocol to significantly expand Treg within the liver in vivo, we will now explore, how these hepatic Treg can be harnessed to become functionally active suppressors in cholangitis. Before IL-17 producing T cells can be targeted for treatment, their functional role in cholangitis needs to be defined. Using our antigen-dependent mouse models, we will investigate in detail the role of IL-17 producing CD8 and CD4 positive T cells in experimental cholangitis.
