Development of fundamental process technology for the production of Multiaxial Warp Knitted (Stitch-Bonded) Fabric with three dimensional Geometry

Subject Area Lightweight Construction, Textile Technology
Term from 2010 to 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 160013724

The goal of the proposed second phase of the project is the production in a reproducible quality of open net-shaped as well as closed-surface Multiaxial Warp Knitted Textile preforms with complex three-dimensional geometries that are ripple free. Based on the successful results achieved during the first phase of the project, the fundament of the proposed presearch activity in the second phase of the project is the Textile technological enhancement of force regulated NC- Warp yarn delivery and Doffing unit as well as the basic research on the influence of the Knitting process parameters on the 3-D surface formation. The necessary foundation for the realization of a continuous Technological process chain (Reverse Engineering) results from a better understanding of the processing behavior for the materials used, the necessary Calculation methods and the corresponding process technology developments. Furthermore, these developed methods and procedures can be transferred to other Textile technologies, such as Leno weaving or Multilayer Knitting. These novel form-based textile preforms make themselves suitable for their application as reinforced components in complex spatial composites with a mineral or a plastic-based matrix, wooden composites and elastomers.
