Final Report Abstract

In this project a freely available software tool (COPRA = Constructing Proxy Records From Age Models) that allows construction of age model ensembles, integration of layer-counting information into age models, and error estimation on the proxy level of palaeoclimate records, was developed. COPRA is the foundation for statistical evaluation and comparison of multiple proxy reconstructions and complex network analyses. The concept of climate networks results in a novel palaeoclimate-network approach to compile a spatiotemporal analysis of palaeoclimate data from the HIMPAC study area. The project achieved the development and implementation of (i) novel techniques for the estimation and quantification of the uncertainties associated with the variability of climate change (or its proxy data); (ii) software package COPRA; (iii) methods for correlation analysis of differently and irregularly-sampled time series, as well as the palaeo-climate network approach; (iv) recurrence-based methods for the detection of climate transitions from proxy records as well as statistical tests for recurrence-based methods; (v) complex-network approach for spatiotemporal climate data analysis; (vi) a method for detectiing of causal mechanisms; (vi) the developed approaches in several IPs of HIMPAC.
