High pressure turbine blades are subject to the highest temperatures in modern gas turbines resulting in erosion, wear and cracking. During the course of the first two funding periods, sub-project B5 developed a repair mechanism using the combination of laser metal deposition (LMD) and laser melting. The 3rd funding period aims at analysing the evolution of the microstructure of regenerated samples compared to single-crystal substrate material during heat treatment, and quantifying their mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties with the aim of further optimising the regeneration process.
