Project Details
Ecological significance, biogeography and physiology of the Roseobacter group in pelagic systems (A01)
Subject Area
Microbial Ecology and Applied Microbiology
Term
from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 34509606
This project will address two topics. i) A global assessment of the biodiversity and biogeography of the pelagic Roseobacter clusters based on samples and data collected during two cruises in the Pacific in 2016 and 2017 and previous cruises in the Atlantic and Southern Oceans. We will establish a detailed predictive model of the global functional biogeography of this group. ii) Interactions of roseobacters with the diatom Thalassiosira rotula. We will focus on direct physical interactions between both partners and associated physiological and chemical features and apply increasing levels of complexity from batch and continuous cultures with two and three partners to mesocosm and field studies.
