Metabolism, Biochemistry and Genetics of Microorganisms
Term
from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 34509606
This project will focus on the interaction of the dinoflagellate Prorocentrum minimum and the diatom Thalassiosira rotula with their phyco-microbiome. Axenic algal cultures will be inoculated with the model bacteria of the Roseobacter group D. shibae and P. inhibens to identify their influence on growth, metabolite production, and death of the algae in comparison to bacteria-free cultures and to those harbouring the natural algal phyco-microbiome. Further, outer membrane vesicles produced by D. shibae and their significance as a transmitter for DNA will be studied.
