Spin Effects in Quantum Transport in Carbon Nanotubes
Applicant
Dr. Dario Bercioux
Subject Area
Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
Term
from 2010 to 2013
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 171864969
This project focusses on spin effects in quantum transport through carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with defects. The main goal of the project is the evaluation of the average charge and spin currents and of their fluctuations for two different configurations: a two-terminal setup-the CNT is connected to source and drain contacts – and a three-terminal setup – a tip of a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) is added to the two-terminal setup. The effect of a back gate varying the electrochemical potential of the CNT will be included. Spin effects induced by ferromagnetic contacts and by spin-orbit interactions (SOIs) in the CNTs will also be addressed.
