Graphene like 2D compounds going beyond the sp2 carbon paradigm by the introduction of sp-carbons into three-fold symmetry superlattices have recently emerged. In continuation of the work for the first funding period, we propose here a bottom up technology deriving from surface chemistry which facilitates the production of sp/sp2 in graphene, so called graphdyines. Due to its bottom-up synthetic approach, covalent modular functionalization of the 2D carbon sheets with metallorganic precursor molecules is proposed. In particular functionalisation with magnetic precursors may lead to interesting materials with potential in Molecular Spin Valve devices; a concept we have introduced during the first funding period. Here, we propose (I) surface-synthesis of (functional) graphdyines, (II) a process for the detachment and transfer of the graphdiynes from the original (production) substrates to facilitate the investigation of their intrinsic electrical and photo-optical properties. (III) the use of the novel materials in spintronic devices.
