Overarching an unsurpassable topological versatility, the giant wheel and capsule type polyoxomolybdates provide an unprecedented option to study a new state(s) of matter under confined conditions. Examples include: chemistry of encapsulates, cooperativity, multiple site activation, aggregation of the same nanoobjects in three states of matter, confined waterelectrolyte ensembles and more. Recent research within this context has demonstrated that the field has an unexpected promising potential. A concerted multi-disciplinary effort is still necessary for further exploration of the field.
