Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 175296404

The success of the international and interdisciplinary research projects proposed within the present bundle depends to a significant degree on efficient project management. There will be an unusually high demand for coordination to integrate the participating universities of Göttingen, Bogor, Palu as well as the Indonesian Institute of Science and to facilitate synergies. The cooperating partner institutions in Indonesia are very heterogeneous in terms of structure, academic focus and scientific background, and these heterogeneities need to be accounted for within the cooperation. Within the study area in Indonesia it is absolutely essential to ensure adequate intercultural and interdisciplinary cooperation, and to support the research vis-à-vis local authorities, organisations and institutions. Without appropriate coordination individual researchers would need to invest a significantly higher amount of time for these tasks which would be diverted from research activity. Project management is essential to prevent research activities from being potentially endangered by intercultural misunderstanding or insufficient individual knowledge about geographically heterogeneous local traditional culture and rules.
