The proposal aims at profile meassurements of UV/visible absorbing trace gases, which are of particular interest for the photochemistry of upper troposheric and lower stratospheric ozone. Profiles of O3, NO2, CH2O, O4, BrO, OCIO, IO and OIO will be sensitively detected using the newly developed and already validated technique of quasi-in-situ Limb scanning UV/visible DOAS spectroscopy. The instrument will be deployed on two different balloon payloads (MIPAS-B and LPMA/IASI) and a research aircraft (Geophysica) during various field campaigns which are planned within internationally and nationally funded research projects (EU-SCOUT-=3; EU-AMMA; ENVISAT validation,..). The campaigns are scheduled within the time frame of the proposal, i.e. from late 2005 to 2008. The measured data will be interpreted together with a larger suite of correlative measurements that are simultaneously performed on the host platforms. Particular focus of the data interpretation will be put on the role of halogen oxides for the ozone photochemistry of the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere.
