Investigations of dynamics and structure generation in jet-in-crossflow con-figurations

Subject Area Fluid Mechanics
Term from 2010 to 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 186878845

Jet-in-crossflow configurations are encountered when a concentrated strong jet injects energy into a boundary-layer flow along a wall. This leads to hitherto unexplained interactions between jet and cross flow, whose dependence on the parameters defining the con-figuration needs to be clarified. Numerical simulations and investigations using stability theory are intended to lead to a new insight into the fluid-dynamical mechanisms of jet-and-crossflow configurations which are needed for a better understanding and optimization of such configurations. The necessary numerical tools from the most recent literature have been extended to and validated for compressible flows in the first funding period of the present proposal. Using these, new configurations in supersonic flow shall now be in-vestigated, for which neither investigations nor findings are available so far.
