Coupled dynamics of polarization and magnetization in ferroelectric-magnetic layers

Subject Area Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2011 to 2014
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 188443797

This project is focused on novel materials that exhibit a coupled magnetic-ferroelectric order. The aim is to explore theoretically the combined dynamics of the polarization and the magnetization induced by time-dependent electric or magnetic fields. This will be achieved by employing a classical finite-temperature Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation coupled to the Landau-Khalatnikov equation and also using Monte-Carlo methods. A particular attention is devoted to the switching behaviour of the electric polarization and of the magnetization via magnetic and electric fields, respectively. In addition, we will inspect the polarization switching via a spin-polarized current that acts with a spin torque on the magnetic component of the sample.
