Project Details
Structural analysis for the design and realization of a flexible, gap and stepless wing leading edge device for high lift applications (B03)
Subject Area
Lightweight Construction, Textile Technology
Term
from 2011 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 133733460
A continuous contour-variable droop nose capable of very large deformations is very advantageous for the performance of circulation-control high-lift systems. A primary goal of this project is to design and manufacture a droopnose device for a wing with 1.2 m chord and 2.8 m span and assess its structural perfor-mance in wind-tunnel tests in the DNW-NWB facility in combination with the high-lift technologies from other subprojects. Additional aims include the investigation of Thin-Plies for improved skin strength, and of novel actuation technology in the form of pressurized cells with the potential to reduce weight, required space, and complexity.
