Project Details
Control of peripheral immune reactions through bronchial epithelial cells (E)
Subject Area
Immunology
Term
from 2011 to 2015
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 178696424
Airway epithelial cells control local immune reactions. We previously showed that bronchial epithelial cells secrete prostaglandin E2 and reactivate glucocorticoids thereby dampening dendritic cells proinflammatory activity. Within the next funding period we want to analyse the importance of these modulatory effects within human airways and in vivo. Furthermore, we will study how these suppressive interactions change upon antigenic challenge, speculating that endoplasmic reticulum stress favors immune reactions. Finally, we will examine the function of nuclear SOCS1 as immune modifier within airway epithelial cells.
