Manipulating the redox balance in immune cells may be a novel approach to control immune responses. For this purpose we need to identify redox-regulated proteins important for leukocyte functions that could serve as biomarkers. Detecting oxidative modifications of such proteins may allow personalized adjustment of redox modifying treatments to doses leading to an optimal redox balance. We found that cofilin is highly redox sensitive. To determine whether cofilin may serve as redox biomarker, the causal relationship between redox modifications of cofilin and immune cell functions will be determined both in vitro and in vivo.
