We propose a project on theoretical investigations of hyperon interactions in baryonic matter and the production and spectroscopy of hypernuclei. Hyperon-nucleon (YN) and hyperon-hyperon (YY) in-medium interactions will be derived by field theoretical microscopic methods by means of Bethe-Salpeter type equations and nuclear many-body theory. Hypernuclei are described by an appropriate extension of the Giessen relativistic density functional theory. The in-medium production of strangeness (S ≤ −1) and the formation hypernuclei are studied theoretically for high energy quasi-elastic quantal reactions and incoherent heavy ion collisions in the energy regions of FAIR@GSI and J-PARC. Exploratory studies of charm production are anticipated in the late stages of the project. The projects aims to clarify the dynamics of multi-strangeness hypernuclei and their production mechanisms.
