Design Studies of Specific High Power Gyrotrons

Subject Area Electronic Semiconductors, Components and Circuits, Integrated Systems, Sensor Technology, Theoretical Electrical Engineering
Term from 2005 to 2009
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 19576802

Final Report Year 2009

Final Report Abstract

This research collaboration has been well utilised in acquiring and updating the overall design aspects of advanced high power millimeter wave sources, so-called gyrotrons. This will lead to the design, realization and application of specific gyrotrons for Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ECRH) and non-inductive Electron Cyclotron Current Drive (ECCD) magnetically confined controlled thermonuclear fusion plasmas for clean energy generation, for industrial heating/materials processing and other scientific applications, e.g. like high senstive nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The outcome of this work is directly linked to the ongoing gyrotron research activities at the Institut für Hochfrequenztechnik und Elektronik (IHE) of the Universität Karlsruhe (TH) and the Institut für Hochleistungsimpuls- und Mikrowellentechnik (IHM) of the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (FZK) and in India which is in the budding stage and will directly supplement, help, and cater the needs towards self-sustenance and indigenization.
