Project Details
Dynamic generation of interface layers in a Spark Plasma Sintering Device (A06)
Subject Area
Thermodynamics and Kinetics as well as Properties of Phases and Microstructure of Materials
Term
from 2011 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 169148856
The main focus of this particular project is the examination of the capability of defect spinel structures (γ- or η-Al2O3) and intentionally produced cation-deficient spinel phases based on M2+Al3+2O2-4 (M = Fe, Mg, Mn and Cr) that form on the filter surface to remove inclusions and other contaminations from the steel and aluminium alloy melts. Furthermore, the analysis of the reaction processes at the interface between the metal melts and the environment-friendly and CA-containing coatings developed within the subprojects A01 and A02 will be pursued. The samples will be characterised using SEM/EDX, EBSD, EPMA and XRD. Interfaces of selected samples will be analysed using TEM and HRTEM. The scope of the applications of the SPS technique for the metal melt production will be enlarged through the development and testing of alternative tooling materials.
