Thinking matter versus physical influx. Core debates in German philosophy of mind, ca. 1750-1800

Subject Area History of Philosophy
Term from 2011 to 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 196723837

The continuation of the project is devoted to core contexts of the German materialism debate, as well as to recently found literary remains. During the first stage of the project, German materialists have turned out to be associated with certain currents of religious dissent, mainly Socinian and Mortalist ones. The aim of the second stage is to analyse these connections in detail and to place them into the context of the contemporary debate about "radical enlightenment". Likewise, the literary remains of important materialists that have not been studied yet (Michael Hißmann, Christoph Meiners, Johann Gottlieb Karl Spazier, Karl von Knoblauch) will be analysed.
