The research objective of this project is to proof the efficiency of pulse compensation for coupled axes structures. The research will be based on the fundamental work, such as the design and assembly of the cross slide and on the Matlab / Simulink models, performed in the first project period. On this basis, the method of pulse compensation has to be improved, implemented and investigated by means of experiments and simulations. The cross slide which was developed and optimized in the first project period will initially be studied regarding its static and dynamic properties by means of experiments. A comprehensive DBS model of the cross slide, developed in the first project period, has to be extended with the machines elastic properties and then compared with the properties determined in the experiments mentioned above. By means of this model, simulation studies of the advancements in the pulse compensation method with predicted target pathways will be performed. Subsequently, the simulation results will be verified by implementing these approaches into the control of the cross slide and, hence, the accomplishable reductions of structural excitations will experimentally be demonstrated. Finally, the cross slide will be installed on an existing frame with a HSC milling spindle and a third axis of motion, which will make it a 3-axis milling machine. After determining its precision, the machine will be used to demonstrate the practicability of above mentioned pulse compensation methods for defined machining processes.
