New Ways towards the Cleavage of Non-activated Carbon-Carbon Bonds

Subject Area Organic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term from 2011 to 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 197645375

In the first phase of this project we found by chance that borata-alkenes containing the strongly electron-withdrawing -B(C6F5)2 were very stable and were easily formed by various means from readily available precursors. In the continuation of the project we want to use the B(C6F5)2 effect for developing convenient ways to the -B(C6F5)2 substituted bent metallocenes for homogeneous Ziegler-Natta olefin polymerization catalysis and especially for developing efficient and useful borata-Wittig olefination reactions. First preliminary examples point out that the (F5C6)2B= borata-alkenes will become very useful reagents for the Wittig type olefination reactions of ketones and aldehydes but also of carboxylic esters and amides. Eventually we will briefly explore whether our (F5C6)2B= borata-alkene methodology will pave new ways toward the preparation of stable examples of compounds containing planar tetracoordinate carbon.
