Construction of a structured reference corpus "Frühneuhochdeutsch" (1350-1650) which is digitally available, transcribed, lemmatised and grammatically annotated.

Subject Area Applied Linguistics, Computational Linguistics
Term from 2011 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 200609649

A reference corpus for the Early New High German language level will be developed as part of the 'Corpus of historical texts of German' (formerly 'Deutsch Diachron Digital'). Written records of High German of the Late Medieval and Early Modern period of approx. 1350 until 1650 will be collected in a structured selection, transcribed, lemmatised and annotated with grammatical information. The selection is constrained by the variables space, time, text type and medium. The project aims at a sufficiently extensive and reliable database faithful to Early New High German manuscripts and prints, which allows for historio-linguistic research in a manner that goes far beyond what is currently possible. Additionally, it will be usable as a working instrument for medievalist and Early Modern research.
