The main aim of this project is the digital registration and documentation of those geoscientific special collections of the University of Hamburg which are requested most frequently, and to make these collections accessible via the online-portal of the 'digiCULT-Verbund'.In a first step, the collection of rare minerals of the 'Mineralogisches Museum' and the amber collection of the 'Geologisch-Paläontologisches Institut und Museum' shall be digitally registered, since they are of particular international importance and have partly been recorded in preliminary digital lists. Photographic documentation will play an important role for the project: It is planned to present the majority of the objects in the internet portal 'digiCULT' optically from different views, particularly holo- and paratypes. It shall be possible for scientists to search online for reference material and to learn about relevant object data. Using the accessible photographs, scientists shall be able to evaluate the material online and to find out if loaning of certain objects is expedient.
