Project Details
Wall, Recitation Roll and Tomb. Alternating Materialisations of Religious Texts in Ancient Egypt (B02)
Subject Area
Egyptology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies
Term
from 2011 to 2015
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 178035969
The depiction of Egyptian religion in its socio-practical sphere of activity serves to alter theoretical and methodological paradigms in the investigation of religion in a pre-modern society. In contrast to theology-centered depictions, this project aims at explaining religion as a social field, in which the connection and implementation of religious beliefs and practices is part of an overall system. This system consists of contents and objects as well as human agents and activities. The texts examined are those that on certain neuralgic points will help us better understand the internal structure of religious text production as well as ancient Egyptian religion as a whole (including its socio-practical side).
