The Modular Multilevel Matrix Converter (M3C) is eminently well suited for medium voltage low speed drives. For an extended control range, the converter must be able to pass through an operating point with equal frequencies on input and output side. While this problem has been solved in principle, the limitations induced by the equal frequency operating point shall be investigated and minimized by an appropriate design of the control algorithm.
