Final Report Abstract

The project Psyfring is a pure research project in the framework of the joint French‐German research program in the Human and Social Sciences funded by the ANR and the DFG. It has thrown new lights on the contemporary transformations of psychiatry. We make a significant contribution to the social science understanding of clinical research practices in psychiatry which have been largely neglected by the social study of medicine so far. We also propose a series of new ideas for the social science analysis of classification by focusing on phenomena located at the boundary of categories. In line with these analyses we also give a contribution to discussions about role identification in the sociology of illness. Finally we make an important contribution to the history of knowledge about risks in medicine.
