Project Details
Molecular Fragments of Heteroatom-Doped Carbon Allotropes by Chemical Synthesis (A05)
Subject Area
Organic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term
from 2012 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 182849149
The project focuses on the synthesis of structurally and electronically complex PAHs comprising next to 6-membered benzenoid rings various heteroatoms together with cyclic moieties of different sizes selectively embedded within the sp2-carbon framework. The target structures with a high degree of control over the size, shape, and edge structure will become accessible from carefully designed precursor molecules through different synthetic methodologies carried out either in solution, on surfaces, or in the gas phase. The resulting compounds will be subjected to comprehensive interdisciplinary studies to unravel the impact of the heteroatoms in combination with non-benzenoid rings on the optoelectronic and materials features in order to generate new knowledge in the field of heteroatom-doped carbon allotropes and carbon-rich compounds and to identify the most promising candidates for potential application as organic functional materials.
