Complex Carbon Allotropes: Defected Graphenes, Composite Materials, and Topological Insulators (C03)
Subject Area
Theoretical Chemistry: Molecules, Materials, Surfaces
Term
from 2012 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 182849149
Project C3 focuses on the theory of extended defects in graphene and few layer graphenes, in particular partial dislocations in AB bilayer graphene, screw dislocations in the twist bilayer , and extended strain fields induced by deposition of metallic islands. Extended defects are expected to have a dramatic impact on the electronic properties of low dimensional carbon based materials, but this is currently poorly understood. In close collaboration with experiment the impact on transport, magneto-transport, plasmonic and optical response will be investigated, as well as the interplay between strain fields and the Berry curvature of Dirac-Weyl electrons.
