Based on results of the 1st FP, we will start from the hypothesis that building up manufacturing sec-tors is pivotal for sustainable development and societal capabilities. We will first identify and catego-rise key capabilities. Second, we will investigate the relationship between particular economic (manufacturing) sectors and improving societal capabilities, like good institutional quality or rule of law. We will further test our hypothesis based on case studies in developing countries. Finally, based on the similarity space developed in the 1st FP we will build a numeric model of structural economic change.
