The focus of the research work in this project lies on the development of accuracy increasing add-on equipment to compensate static and dynamic position and angular errors of outdated milling machines. Furthermore, solutions aiming at increasing machine tools productivity will be devel-oped. These developments will increase the lifetime of the outdated machine tools, especially in comparison to contemporary alternatives such as retrofitting, where system and performance rele-vant components are replaced with a high use of resources and in time and cost-intensive process-es. To carry out a meaningful experimental validation the upgraded milling machine will be compared with modern milling machines, under consideration of the often conflicting aims of productivi-ty, working accuracy and sustainability.
