Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

With the support of this grant we successfully finished three projects. We studied combined anterograde and retrograde tracing with slice electrophysiology and optogenetics, and functionally characterized novel long-range GABAergic projections that connect the septum with the MEC. Prompted by the preponderant inhibitory connectivity in the MEC, we investigated the neighboring structure, i.e. the LEC, and demonstrated that the MEC and LEC exhibit similar principles of connectivity with upstream and downstream structures. Finally, we extended our investigations of long-range GABAergic neurons to other brain regions, and characterized in detail distinct PV+ and Calbindin+ neurons that connect the motor cortex with the striatum.
