The Ernst Ruska-Centre for Microscopy and Spectroscopy with Electrons: National User Facility for Ultra-high Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy

Subject Area Synthesis and Properties of Functional Materials
Mechanical Properties of Metallic Materials and their Microstructural Origins
Term from 2012 to 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 213892868

Forschungszentrum Jülich and RWTH Aachen University have established the Ernst Ruska-Centre (ER-C) as a joint competence centre and national user centre. At present, the ER-C is the internationally leading centre in the field of the development and application of high resolution electron-optical techniques. The present proposal aims at extending the support of the Ernst Ruska-Centre as a National User Centre by the DFG within the framework of their Core Facility Initiative for a further two years. Based on this support, the ER-C will not only offer access to a world class facility with unique instrumen¬tation, but users will also be introduced to the unique methods which are available at the ER-C and will be trained in their application as well as in the optimised operation of the aberration corrected instruments. In addition, users will have access to all existing software tools and will be introduced to the newest developments in data analysis and quantification. The instrumental basis will include the newest instruments at the Ernst Ruska-Centre, in particular the new CCOR+ corrector on the PICO instrument, the Titan Holo, the Titan ChemiSTEM and a second Helios Nanolab FIB, which will be installed in May 2015.
