Project Details
Precision hadron physics: Muon (g-2) and the fine structure constant ((01) P01)
Subject Area
Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Fields
Term
from 2012 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 204404729
The goal of the project is an improved Standard Model prediction of the muon anomaly, [(g-2)]_gamma, and of the fine structure constant, alpha_em (M_Z^2 ), which are both limited by hadronic contributions. To this end, lattice QCD calculations as well as measurements of the hadronic cross section in electron-positron annihilation at BESIII will be carried out. Furthermore, a focal plane detector for the MAGIX experiment at the future MESA accelerator will be developed and constructed. One of the main goals of MAGIX is the search for Dark Photons as a possible explanation for the [(g-2)]_gamma puzzle.
