Visual Analysis of Language Change and Use Patterns

Subject Area Applied Linguistics, Computational Linguistics
Term from 2013 to 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 218458885

The aim of this project is to develop and apply computational models and visualizations that help to visualize and analyze language patterns. Currently research visualization methods are rarely used in linguistics for the analysis of large data sets. The main goal of the project is to push the state-of-the-art in linguistic data analysis on both a qualitative and quantitative level. The methods to be developed will focus on a diverse set of data sources and phenomena related to language change, language genealogy, and variation in language use across time, in order to investigate relationships between complex data sets across time and across languages.
